EMERGENCY DRILLS

Dear Ashley Falls Families:

Each month, your child along with his/her class will participate in a school wide ‘Three in One’ emergency drill.  The Three in One drill incorporates practice and procedures for three types of situations:  intruder in the area or on campus, earthquake and fire (evacuation).

Each time the Three in One drill occurs, students hear the same script over the school wide intercom system.  The script is written in a manner which gives staff and students time to prepare students for three different responses.  When the drill begins, staff and students are directed to ‘Lockdown Now and assume a Duck, Cover and Hold position’.  After 60 seconds, staff, students and visitors are directed to evacuate the building and proceed to the assembly area.

The Del Mar Union School District began having the Three in One drills last year as part of a district wide effort to increase our readiness and response to emergency situations.  These drills are part of a comprehensive safety plan developed in collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education.  All school sites in the Del Mar District have the same command structure, procedures and response protocols to emergency situations.

This year, after these drills take place, families who have registered their email address with the school or PTA will receive an email notification stating that an emergency drill was held.  Monthly practice, as required by law, will ensure our students are prepared to respond calmly should an actual emergency occur.

If you have any questions regarding the Three in One emergency preparedness drills, please contact the school office at 858.259.7812.
